Appleseed Community Mental Health Center has an immediate need for staffing for the Safe Haven Domestic Violence Shelter. The Campus and Direct Services Advocate provides Trauma Informed direct services and outreach to stalking, intimate partner violence, and/or sexual violence survivors and secondary survivors on campus, in shelter, and in the community. This is a full-time, hourly non-exempt position with varying hours based on client need and campus hours. Will provide training in sexual violence and domestic violence and must have the ability to relate effectively with a diverse population.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Adheres to the Trauma Informed Care model and follows ODVN’s Standards for Ohio’s Domestic Violence Programs and OAESV’s Core Standards for Rape Crisis Programs in Ohio
- Provides confidential and timely direct services to survivors and secondary survivors on campus (over the phone, in-person, support groups, outreach, Title IX complaints and hearings, hospital advocacy, and other services as needed) as well provide 24-hour crisis hotline, in-person crisis intervention, individualized safety planning, follow-ups, resources and information, and other services as needed both in shelter and other Safe Haven programs
- Delivers outreach presentations and attends events on campus, while ensuring that information is delivered in a culturally appropriate and sensitive manner, in collaboration with the Outreach & Prevention Coordinator and/or other staff, as appropriate
- Facilitates weekly sexual assault support groups both in the community and on campus while working with Education & Outreach Advocate to market groups in an effective and culturally appropriate manner
- Ensures a safe, confidential, supportive, non-judgmental environment for student survivors to explore feelings resulting from their victimization and the healing process while arranging for follow-up services for Title IX committee members, hospital, law enforcement, mental health, criminal justice, and other social services, as needed.
- Responsible to adhering to, and understanding, both Title IX and the Clery Act
- Assesses campus needs and provides a proactive response by networking and collaborating with campus faculty, administration, and student groups to discover gaps in services, duplication of services, and positive collaborative efforts in serving survivors of sexual violence, stalking, and/or intimate partner violence on campus
- Participates in Title IX meetings, community coordinated response meetings, trainings, and educational presentations, as needed or requested
- Completes documentation and maintains accurate data collection on clients and other services as provided in a timely manner (e.g., case notes, stats, resources, etc.).
- Demonstrates knowledge of procedure for utilizing Language Line, video phone, etc. for callers who are Limited English Proficient and/or Deaf/Hard of Hearing
- Performs other duties, as determined appropriate by Director and/or agency

Education: Preferred Bachelor’s degree or an Associate’s degree in liberal arts, social services, women’s studies or related field with 1 years’ experience working with victims of sexual violence, stalking, and/or intimate partner violence. Must have knowledge of violence against women’s issues and sexual violence, stalking, and/or intimate partner violence.
Experience: Prefer at least two years of college with classes in social services, justice studies, women’s studies or related field or equivalent work experience with a human service agency.
Specialized knowledge, skills, or abilities:
- Knowledge of violence against women, stalking, intimate partner, and/or sexual violence issues, and emotional wellness
- Ability to develop relationships with students, faculty, and the community as a whole
- Good verbal and written communication, computer skills
- Ability to work autonomously
- Ability to relate to diverse populations
- Crisis-related and de-escalation skills
- Knowledge of individual development and behavior and ways of working effectively with college-aged students who have experienced trauma
- Ability to conduct client interviews and to use them to identify and address individual needs
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, campus faculty and administration, other staff, outside agencies and institutions and the general public
- Ability to plan and organize work, prepare adequate records and reports, and set priorities
- Familiarity with Regulations concerning Confidentiality
- Ability to understand and implement federal, state and county laws, and regulations

Must have a car available during working hours, carry and maintain automobile insurance that includes a payable liability of $100,000/$300,000, as well as the ability to legally drive a car. Must pass background and driving record checks.
