Eating Disorder Week

Eating Disorder Week

Today begins Eating Disorder Awareness Week. Eating disorders are complex issues that cause people to have excessive fear and anxiety about eating, body image, and weight. Three of the most identified eating disorders are binge eating disorder, bulimia nervosa, and anorexia nervosa.

Body based teasing and bullying are common experiences for children and teens, especially for those who may be heavier. This teasing and Bullying can be a component in the development of an eating disorder.

If you want to be helpful remember to never make weight-based comments to or about others and advocate for those being bullied or teased about their body.
